Diamond Girdle
The edge of a diamond, formed where the top – the crown, and
the bottom – the pavilion of a stone meet. The girdle is the area normally
grasped by prongs when a stone is mounted into a setting. The girdle usually has
a frosted appearance. The girdle of a diamond does not affect the value of the
diamond and is often more of a reflection of the diamond cutters preference. The
girdle is rated in terms of thickness; Extremely Thin, Very Thin, Thin, Medium,
Slightly Thick, Thick, Very Thick or Extremely Thick. It is recommended to avoid
the two extremes.
